Getting Started
Welcome to AnyTally. This guide walks you through the basics: creating a tally, adding rows, and reading the total. By the end you'll have a working tally and know your way around the app.
What is AnyTally
AnyTally is a tally counter for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You create tallies for whatever you want to count — calories, expenses, water, workouts, page counts, screen time — and add rows to log values. The total updates live.
Each tally has its own name, color, icon, unit, and schedule. The schedule decides how rows are grouped: daily, weekly, monthly, annually, or never.
Your tallies sync across all your devices through iCloud.
Creating your first tally
- Tap the + at the top of the sidebar.
- Give your tally a name, like "Water".
- Pick an icon and a color.
- Choose a unit (13 options including Plain number, Currency, Calories, Steps, Minutes, and Miles — see Tallies for the full list).
- Pick a schedule — Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Annually, or Never.
- Optionally add a goal to reach or a limit to stay under.
- Tap Create.
Your new tally appears in the sidebar and opens automatically.
Adding rows
A row is a single entry in your tally. To add one:
- Tap the empty row at the bottom of the list (the ghost row).
- Type a label (optional) and a value.
- Use the +/− toggle on the left to make the row add or subtract.
The total at the bottom updates as you type. Tap the ghost row again to add another row.
Switching periods
If you picked anything other than Never for the schedule, you'll see a switcher at the top of the tally with the current period (for example "Today" with "June 18, 2026" below it).
- Tap the chevrons to step back or forward.
- Tap the label to open the date picker and jump anywhere.
Rows are filtered to the period you're viewing.
